Austin Independent School District

Austin Independent School District is a growing urban district of more than 80,000 students. Austin AISD is in the process of redesigning each of its high schools to provide a high quality, rigorous education that will prepare students for successful post secondary endeavors. As part of that task, AISD has partnered with the Gates Foundation and the Michael and Susan Dell Foundation, among others, to re-structure its high schools into smaller learning communities, and to examine each high school’s best practices towards achieving campus, staff, and student outcomes.

To achieve this AISD asked Shore to devise a set of tools to help campus and district staff plan and examine implementation and monitor outcomes of the redesign process across all 11 high schools. The Shore team assisted Austin ISD by creating a Resign Toolkit for each school that included:

  • A Logic Model for each high school redesign model. The logic model linked program activities to evaluation activities and outcomes and included a timeline for measurement.
  • A Crosswalk that gave a rationale for each performance indicator that linked research literature and education policies to the chosen indicators, program activities, expected outcomes (targets).
  • An Implementation Checklist and Implementation Rubrics for each model so that campus’ could examine ongoing progress towards full implementation and document best practices.
